Thameswey’s solar installations include a range of public, community and residential buildings throughout the borough of Woking. These include schools, community centres, sheltered housing, Woking Leisure Centre, the Civic Offices, the solar canopy in Woking town centre, Peacocks and Wolsey Place shopping centres and local authority tenants’ flats. As a pioneer of PV installations on public buildings, our first PV (photovoltaic) arrays were installed on Woking Borough Council’s buildings over 10 years ago. Since then, Thameswey has added numerous installations across the borough and through its joint venture with Total Gas and Power, has set up Thameswey Solar to fund the installation and operation of new PV.

The maximum potential output of PV panels is measured in kilowatt peak (kWp). Thameswey’s installations vary in size from 2.6 kWp to over 80 kWp. At maximum production, our PV installations generate enough renewable electricity to power a laptop computer in every household in the Borough.

All our PV arrays are roof-mounted (with the exception of the solar canopy) and if they were all placed together would cover an area equivalent to approximately 50 tennis courts.

The amount of energy generated by our PV installations varies depending on the time of day and time of year. By viewing the data for individual sites, you can see the output over recent months. Over the course of a year our PV installations generate enough renewable electricity to meet the entire annual electricity demand of 235 households in Woking. Whilst much of the energy produced by the PV panels will be used within the buildings on which they are located, some of it is exported to the national grid to be used elsewhere.

The total amount of energy displayed here includes the power generated by some of Thameswey’s earlier installations over the last 4 years.

The electricity generated by Solar PV panels has zero carbon emissions. As a result, it helps to reduce carbon emissions from burning gas, coal and oil in power stations. Every kilowatt hour of renewable electricity generated by Thameswey’s PV installations saves over half a kilogram of carbon dioxide from being emitted into the atmosphere.
